I spent ten years farming the same forty acres my grandfather broke with horses. Same seed, same rain, and every year the soil gave a little less. It took me too long to realize we were measuring the wrong thing.

The crop is the receipt. The soil is the bank account. You can read the receipt every harvest and still go broke, because you never looked at the balance underneath.

How does loam read soil biology?+
Respiration — the CO2 the food web exhales — is the best single proxy for life in the soil. We measure it, then fold in microbes, fungi, and worm casts into one index.
Does it need a signal?+
Yes. The probe streams to your field page. No signal, and it buffers locally until the next connection.
Is it just for row crops?+
No. Orchards, pasture, and market gardens all read the same ground. The index doesn't care what you grow.
Is it free?+
Yes — the field monitor and living index are free during beta and stay free after launch.
Do you sell my soil data?+
Never. Your field's readings are yours. We don't sell, share, or even look at them beyond keeping the service running.
